The Jalandhar Rural police organized a community outreach meeting under its 'Sampark' initiative today at Mehat Pur, drawing an overwhelming response from local residents in their collective fight against drugs.
The meeting, jointly chaired by Onkar Singh Brar DSP Shahkot Swarnjeet Singh DSP detective along with Jaipal SHO Mehatpur brought together representatives from various sections of society, including educational institutions, social organizations, and resident welfare associations.
“Drug menace can only be curbed with active public support. We need eyes and ears in every locality to tackle this issue effectively. We should collectively work on this societal problem to curb street crime, snatching, and other associated crimes, drug menace is the root cause of approximately fifty percent of crime.," said the DSP Shahkot while addressing the gathering.
He also highlighted recent successes in anti-drug operations, police officials shared by DSP Shahkot that several peddlers had been arrested in the past month, leading to significant recovery of contraband.
The DSP (D) emphasized the need for a drug-free society for a bright future, to meet these goals community participation is required, to help the drug-addicted person to get rid of any type of addiction, and provide them moral support. He also added to stay aware of cyber thugs, they daily use new tricks to trap people, Cyber Crime victims must complaint on the cyber helpline number 1930 instantly," the officer added.
Residents raised concerns about drug peddling hotspots in certain areas. The police assured swift action and shared helpline numbers for reporting suspicious activities, promising complete confidentiality to informants.
"The fight against drugs is not just the police's responsibility. Every citizen must become a stakeholder in this mission," the DSP Shahkot asserted.
The meeting concluded with residents pledging their support to police initiatives and the formation of locality-wise committees for better coordination.
