Peaceful?Crack down on Panchayat elections violators: Faridkot police book about 120 persons in two separate cases for booth capturing, attempting murder and crimes punishable up to life during Panchayat elections

What could be called that the panchayat elections were not all peaceful going by the police record, Faridkot police have booked about 120 persons under various sections of BNS and People's Representatives act in two separate cases in village Ahal and Doad.

Both the villages fall under Faridkot and Jaitu constituency.

The police action may also be called that none would be spared for any violation of law.

The Faridkot police have registered an FIR No 69 on the complaint of ASI Jaijeet Singh against 32 persons by name and 40 to 50 others as unidentified at police station Sadak on 16th October at about 12:30 AM.

“The accused by name and 40 to 50 unidentified broke open the door of the booth no 111 at village Ahal, they tried to capture the booth and snatch the elections related material. The crowd outside the gate damaged the government vehicle. A case under section 132(assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty),221(obstructing public servant),304(snatching),62( serious crimes which are punishable up to life imprisonment) damage to individual or public property /324(mischief)/(1)120(2)(Voluntarily causing hurt) of BNS and 131,132,135 of PRA-1951.

The police said that injured are admitted to the GGS medical college Faridkot and 2 persons have been arrested in this case.

A total of 82 persons are involved in this case.

In another case registered at police station Bajakhana, police have booked about two persons by name Vicky Singh son of Gurpiar Singh and Jassa Singh of village Doad apart from 30 to 35 unidentified persons.

An FIR has been registered at police station Bajakhana on the complaint of SHO Mohinderpal Singh.

“I received the information on my mobile phone that some persons are causing chaos on the issue of the result of the Panchayat elections in village Doad. When I reached the spot ,  other senior police officials were also present, where Jassa Singh and Vicky Singh along with others were making Hullarbaji and they were made to satisfy as per the instructions of the election commission. But they became enraged and started  flinging brick bats on the police party with an intention to kill and moved towards the police party. Some police personnel were injured in the incident. These people attacked the police party with an intention to kill and police hardly managed to escape apart from disruption of the election process,” reads the police complaint in this regard.

The police have booked two persons by name and 30 to 35 persons as unidentified under sections of 109(attempting to commit murder),121(2)(voluntarily causing hurt)171(interfering with free elections),132assaulting a public servant)),121 grievous injury to public servant of BNS at police station Bajakhana.

One arrest has been made in the case.

The incident occurred at 12:15 AM on 16th of October.

However, the SSP Faridkot,Dr Pragya Jain had said in a press release that the police tried its best to execute the free and fair elections of the Panchayats.

She had said that the police were on high alert and no incident violation was allowed to happen in the district.

The people also thanked the police for helping conduct the peaceful elections despite a few stray incidents where some people tried to create a scene.

The SSP had almost visited all the hot spots during and before the elections.

But the ruling party allegedly misused its power to tilt the scales at many places.
