District Administration all set for Panchayat elections: committed to transparent, fair elections: Deputy Commissioner

The Jalandhar district administration has ensured proper arrangements at all 1,209 polling stations for the upcoming elections for 695-gram panchayats scheduled on October 15. 

Providing this information, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal stated that the district administration is committed to conducting transparent and fair elections. He mentioned that as many as 195 gram panchayats have already been selected unanimously, and for the remaining 695 panchayats, voting will take place on Tuesday from 8 AM to 4 PM. He further informed that the district has a total of 815,033 voters, including 420,756 men, 394,268 women, and 9 other voters. He added that over 10,000 polling staff are on duty to ensure smooth and proper conduct of the voting process.

Dr. Aggarwal also mentioned that the counting of votes will begin immediately after the polling concludes. He urged all voters to reach their designated polling stations on time and exercise their right to vote.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that any citizen can cast their vote by presenting their voter card, Aadhaar card, PAN card, passport, MGNREGA job card, driving license, ration card, or blue card as identification at the polling station. Additionally, voters can also use photo-identified bank or post office passbooks, health insurance cards (issued by the Ministry of Labour), service identity cards (with photos) issued by the Central/State Government/PSU, smart cards issued under NPR (RGI), pension documents with photographs, employee ID cards issued by public limited companies, MP/MLA IDs, official identity cards issued by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, or unique disability ID cards (UDID cards) to cast their votes.

He also mentioned that, following the directions of the State Election Commission, strict monitoring will be conducted at the polling stations. He emphasized that free and fair elections are the administration's top priority. While encouraging election staff to perform their duties diligently, he noted that they should take pride in being part of such an important task.

The Deputy Commissioner urged voters to cast their votes without any fear or greed, emphasizing that voters should maintain peace and discipline while voting and contribute to the success of the democratic process.
