To curb stubble burning in the district, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal introduced a district-level helpline, enabling farmers and the public to report farm fires and seek assistance with crop residue management. During a review meeting with concerned departments, the DC announced that people can report stubble-burning incidents at 0181-2225005, and farmers can seek technical help on crop residue management at the same number. This helpline will be operational from 10 am to 6 pm, seven days a week.
Dr. Aggarwal emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against stubble burning and warned that any government employee found engaging in such practices would face immediate suspension and departmental action. He added that responsibility will be assigned in each case of farm fire, with strict action taken against officials failing in their duty to curb this menace.
The Deputy Commissioner further informed that as many as 6,342 crop residue management machines have been procured, and village-level mapping is being conducted to ensure their optimal utilization. Additionally, over 200 bailers have been arranged to assist farmers.
Dr. Aggarwal urged Sub-Divisional Level Committees to take proactive steps in spreading awareness about the harmful effects of stubble burning. He also highlighted the ‘Vatavaran De Rakhwale’ initiative, which will recognize and reward farmers who refrain from burning their fields, offering them priority services in government offices and development work worth Rs. 1 lakh.
The DC reiterated that stubble burning leads to environmental pollution and severe health issues. Various officials from different departments were present during the meeting.
