Faridkot
As there is little rainfall in Faridkot district so far, the sweating hot summer has led to the very high demand of power in all the sectors.
It has led to a cut of about 2 to 3 hours in power supply to the agriculture sector.
“The chief minister Punjab Bhagwant Mann had promised the farmers with 8 hours uninterpted power supply during paddy season, but now it is for 4 to 5 hours daily. The situation has worsened for the past two weeks,” said Bohar Singh, district president of BKU Sidhupur-Ekta.
The BKU has been frequently protesting against the power cuts.
“Situation was better when I got my paddy transplanted about one month back. Then there was an eight hour power supply but now it is just five hours or less. It has led to the loss of the farmers. Particularly, who have just finished the paddy transplantation, they are getting affected more,” said Parnam Singh, a farmer from Faridkot villages.
The dry and sultry weather has led to the problem. As most parts of the state have received little rainfall, the demand for power in the domestic and agriculture sectors has turned very high.
