Deputy commissioner Faridkot Vineet Kumar expressed his satisfaction over the ideal results of the various schemes launched by the agriculture department during the Rabi and Kharif crops in the district.
"The results are encouraging. The district has recorded about 23 per cent increase in the yield of wheat as compared to last year.Apart from the Rabi crop, there is optimism in the Kharif crops also. The farmers have almost stopped the plantation of PUSA 44, a water guzzling variety of paddy and this season, more and more farmers have adopted PR 131 and PR 126 varieties which are very good and mature shortly. The area under basmati is also going to increase in the coming paddy season," the DC said.
He further stated that the incidents of wheat stubble burning have also come considerably down.
He said that about 43000 farmers are being covered under the PM Kisan scheme and are gerring Rs 6000 annually.
He congratulated the officials of the agriculture department for the good results.
