Vigilance Bureau arrests head constable for taking Rs 20,000 bribe



JALANDHAR/CHANDIGARH

 The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) during its anti-corruption campaign on Friday, nabbed head constable Sachin Sharma (903/Jalandhar), posted as Computer Operator, at NRI police station, Jalandhar city while he was demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Disclosing this here today, a spokesperson of the VB said the above-mentioned head constable has been arrested based on a complaint lodged by Sushil Kumar, a resident of Guru Nanakpura Mohalla, Jalandhar City.

 

 Giving more details he added that the complainant had approached the VB and alleged that the above said police official had demanded a bribe of Rs 55,000 for helping him in a matrimonial complaint case lodged ta the NRI police station. The complainant further informed that the said accused had already taken Rs 10,000 as a bribe in advance and demanded Rs 20,000 more for this motive.
The spokesperson informed that the VB range Jalandhar after a preliminary inquiry, laid a trap and the said accused police personnel has been arrested red-handed while he was accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. In this regard, a case under section Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at VB police station Jalandhar range. He would be produced in the competent court tomorrow. Further investigation in this case was under progress.
