Strengthening works going on war footing at Satluj River: DC reviews flood protection works

SHAHKOT /JALANDHAR
In a proactive move to mitigate flood risks ahead of the monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today visited the Sutlej River in Shahkot to review the flood protection works.

He inspected the ongoing de-silting in the river to ensure the smooth water flow in the river.

It may be mentioned here that to save the high-risk area in Shahkot and Nakodar sub-divisions from floods, extensive de-silting operations are being conducted. Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that the administration has embarked on a significant exercise to clear the waterways beneath this crucial railway bridge.

The Deputy Commissioner highlighted the urgency of this task, directing officials to expedite the pace of de-silting to complete the project before the onset of heavy rains.

"The excavation of river mud is critical to enhancing the water carrying capacity at this point, thereby facilitating a smoother flow of river water," stated Dr. Aggarwal.

He assured that this initiative would significantly reduce the risk of floods, protecting the lives and properties of the residents.

Dr. Aggarwal reiterated the Jalandhar Administration's unwavering commitment to flood prevention, noting that preventive measures have been implemented at a war footing, a first in many years.

He assured the public that the administration is fully prepared to tackle any potential flooding scenario with utmost efficiency.

The Deputy Commissioner's visit underscores the importance of timely and effective flood management strategies.
