The Shahkot police have booked a village chowkidar (watchman) on the charge of cutting trees halfway from the cremation ground.
Investigating Officer (IO) Kewal Singh said that the accused has been identified as Shingara Singhs son of Chaanann a resident of Nimaji Pur village.
Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) Lohian Khas block complained to the police that the accused cut trees halfway from the cremation ground of his village.
IO said a case under section 4 of the Punjab Prevention of Damage to Public and Private Property Act 2014 and section 409(criminal breach of trust by public servant) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
