NAKODAR
The Nakodar City police have arrested a Home Guard (HG) Jawan and booked another Jawan and their accomplice on charges of extortion.
Investigating Officer (IO) Harinder Pal Singh said that arrested HG Jawan has been identified as Rohit Gill son of Jaswant Singh a resident of Thamu Wal village under Shahkot police station and posted in Nakodar Sadar police station and performing guard duty in Nakodar Judicial court complex.
IO said that the second accused is also Home Gurd Jawan posted in Kapurthala Jail and the third accused Jaikab is a resident of Hairan village.
Bhagwan Singh Pruthi former Nakodar councilor complained to the police that he received a WhatsApp call on June 22 from his son Navjot Singh Pruthi's phone number and an unidentified person told him that his son had been detained while consuming a drug.
He said that his son had told him in the morning that he was going to Dakhani Gate for personal work.
Pruthi said that the caller asked him to meet him at Lambarra saying the matter would be solved locally and demanded Rs 50,000 for this.
The complainant said the caller asked him to reach with Rs 50,000 at Taj City -2 colony near Malrri village adding that the caller again phoned him and inquired about money and location. Pruthi said he told the caller about their location and money.
Pruthi said that the caller asked him to stay there saying that he was sending his two men to collect money adding that two clean-shaven men came on a motorcycle without any number from the village side and stopped at a length of fifty meters.
He said the caller made the call from his son’s number saying his men had reached there and you came out from your vehicle and handed over money to them.
Pruthi said that he told the caller to send their men in their vehicle and the motorcycle men doubted and fled toward Jalandhar's side.
Ex- ex-counselor said that his son told him that he was kidnapped from Dakhni Gate in a car and taken to Jalandhar and was released and dropped off at 7 PM near Aallo Wal village.
Pruthi said he knows Rohit Gill who is on duty in Nakodar Courts adding that his son told him that they were addressing themselves by the name of Rohit, Gurpreet, and Jacob and can recognize them.
He said that the accused threatened his son not to tell anything to the police.
Pruthi demanded action against the accused.
IO said a case under sections 386 (extortion by putting a man in fear of death) 342(wrongful confinement) 506(criminal intimidation) 511 (attempting to commit offenses punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment.) and 34(committing a crime with common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused and raids are being conducted to nab absconding accused.
