The Nakodar Sadar police have booked three migrants on the charges of cheating and criminal conspiracy.
Station House Officer (SHO) Jai Pal said that the accused have been identified as Ashik Raj and Satish Kumar residents of Vaishali district in Bihar and Ankit a resident of Ghazai Bad district of UP and their unidentified accomplices.
Gurdeep Singh (NRI) son of Bhola Singh a resident of Littran village complained to Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police in 2023 that he had opened fixed deposit accounts in Axis Bank Nakodar with a maturity date of April 2024, but the bank authorities informed t him that he has zero balance in his accounts as FDR’s have been encashed.
NRI said that he had not encashed any FDR, but some cheaters encashed them illegally and demanded an inquiry.
SHO said that the SSP ordered an inquiry by the cybercrime cell which established that Rs 1 crore,6 lakhs, and 88400 had been fraudulently from Axis Bank Nakodar Jalandhar through internet banking by the accused and the district attorney (legal) gave his opinion to register a case.
SHO said that a case under sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property),420(cheating) life), ), and 120-B(criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and 66-C and 66-D of the Information Technology Act has been registered against the accused.
