Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal using the powers conferred by section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 has declared that public meetings of more than 5 people are restricted for 48 hours that is from 06:00 PM on 30-05-2024 till the conclusion of the Poll on 01-06-2024 in jurisdiction of district Jalandhar.
The decision was taken to maintain the law and order and create of conducive environment for free and fair polling. It was necessary to ban unlawful assemblies and holding of public meetings during 48 hours that is on 30-05-2024 from 06:00 PM till the conclusion of the Poll on 01-06-2024.
However, it is clarified that this does not restrict house-to-house visits during 48 hours as the door-to-door campaigning can be done with a restricted group of 4 persons.
It is also clarified that all the political leaders, functionaries, or party workers who are not registered voters of parliamentary constituency Jalandhar will have to vacate the constituency within this period i.e. on 30.05.2024 from 06:00 pm till the end of the poll on 01.06.2024.
Given the emergent necessity of this order, it is being passed ex-parte and addressed to the public in general. Commissioner of Police. Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar, and All Sub Divisional Magistrates shall ensure implementation of this order.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today issued ban orders on political campaigning within 100 meters of a polling station on June 1, 2024.
Giving more information, the DC said that to maintain law and order and creation of a conducive environment for free and fair polling on 01.06.2024 in the jurisdiction of district Jalandhar under section 130 of the Representation of People Act. 1951 and exercising the power conferred by section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973, it is hereby declared that no political party will do campaigning within a radius of 100 meters of the polling station on the date of polling on 01.06.2024. Because of the emergent necessity of this order, it is being passed ex parte. The Commissioner of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar, and All Sub Divisional Magistrates shall ensure implementation of this order.
