The Shahkot police have booked eight cheaters (One Punjabi and Seven Migrants) on the charge of duping Shahkot residents of Rs 27 Lakhs.
Shahkot Police Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Yadwinder Singh said that the accused belongs to different states of India and one Punjabi identified as Ajay of Baba Bakala in Amritsar
Ajit Singh a resident of Mohalla Azad Nagar, Shahkot town complained to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jalandhar (rural) that the accused telephoned him and lured him into winning crores by purchasing KBC lotteries and duped him of Rs 27 Lakhs.
SPP ordered a cyber-crime cell for inquiry which found all the details of the accused and sent its report ordering the registration of a case after an opinion from the district attorney.
SHO said a case under sections 403(dishonest misappropriation of property), 420(cheating) 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code, and section 66-D of the Information Technology Act has been registered against the accused and their other unidentified accomplices.
