JALANDHAR
After scrutiny of the nominations received for the general elections for Lok Sabha Constituency 04-Jalandhar (SC) on Wednesday, as many as the nomination papers of 20 candidates have been found correct.
Giving more information in this regard, District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that for Lok Sabha constituency Jalandhar between May 7 and 14, a total of 35 nominations were received from 27 candidates, including 4 covering candidates.
He further said that during the scrutiny today, the papers of 4 covering candidates were rejected because the nomination papers of their main candidates were found valid.
Nomination papers of 3 candidates have been rejected for not being found as per the instructions/rules of the Election Commission of India.
Among the candidates whose nomination papers have been rejected for various reasons including one nomination paper has been rejected due to punishment and the remaining two nominations have been rejected due to not having signatures of the required proposers as per the rules of the Election Commission of India.
The District Election Officer said that the nomination papers can be withdrawn till 3 pm on May 17 and after the withdrawal of nominations, the election symbols will be allotted to the eligible candidates on May 17 at 3:30 pm in the courtroom.
He further informed that the polling will be held on June 1 while the counting will be held on June 4.
Reiterating the commitment to conduct free, fair and transparent elections in the district, the District Election Officer said that proper arrangements were being made to conduct the Lok Sabha elections smoothly.
The instructions have already been issued to the officials to do all the work related to the elections as per the instructions of the Election Commission.
