'Heritage Walk' on May 14 for voter awareness

The district administration has all set to organize a 'Heritage Walk' on May 14 to encourage the youth, especially first-time voters, to connect with the rich heritage of Punjab as well as exercise their right to vote during the Lok Sabha elections.

District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that during the Lok Sabha elections 2024, efforts are being made by the district administration to motivate the voters, especially the youth, to cast their votes.

Under these initiatives, a 'heritage walk' from Maharaja Ranjit Singh Fort Phillaur and Nurmahal Saran is being conducted on May 14 by first-time voters.

He said that the purpose of this heritage walk is to make the young voters face to-face with the rich heritage of Punjab and also to make them aware to exercise their right to vote on the upcoming 1st June polling day.

Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal said that around 1000 young voters from different assembly constituencies will participate in this heritage walk, for which the authorities have already made arrangements to ensure transportation, security, smooth traffic management, medical teams, fire brigade, and other necessary arrangements.

The District Election Officer said that the administration is conducting continuous awareness activities across the district to achieve the target of more than 70 % voting for Lok Sabha constituency Jalandhar. Special efforts are being made for the active participation of the youth during the elections. He also appealed to the voters of the district, especially the young voters, to exercise their right to vote on June 1 without any fear or intimidation.

Assistant Returning Officer-cum-Sub Divisional Magistrate Phillaur Amanpal Singh said that proper arrangements are being made for the 'Heritage Walk'. He said that the authorities have been asked to provide lists of young students participating in the heritage walk from schools/colleges, the safety of young voters, smooth traffic, cleanliness, deployment of medical teams keeping in mind the summer season, and other necessary arrangements.
