The Lohian Khas police have booked unidentified persons for illegal sand mining.
Investigating Officer (IO)Avtar Singh said that the police had received a complaint about illegal mining going on in the River Sutlej near Mianni village.
IO said that mining raided the spot, but a tractor-trolley and a tipper managed to flee in darkness a JCB machine being used for loading illegal sand was recovered from the spot which had been impounded.
The Investigating Officer said that a case under section 21 of the Punjab Mining Act has been registered against the unidentified persons.
