District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today supervised the first randomization of EVMs and VVPATs to be used for voting on June 1, in the presence of representatives of various political parties. The verified list of EVMs and VVPATs allotted at the assembly constituency level was also provided to representatives of political parties.

The District Election Officer informed the political party's representatives that the first randomization for allocated 2442 ballot units, 2442 control units, and 2637 VVPATs (including reserves) was done today via NIC's EMS software. 

He further added that for Phillaur, 302 ballot units, 302 control units, and 326 VVPAT machines were allotted; Nakodar received 315 of each ballot and control units, 340 VVPATs; Shahkot got 312 each ballot and control units, 337 VVPATs; Kartarpur received 283 each ballot and control units, and 305 VVPATs; Adampur received 263; each ballot and control units, and 284 VVPATs; Jalandhar West received 228 each ballot and control units, and 246 VVPATs; Jalandhar Central received 232 each ballot and control units, and 251 VVPATs; Jalandhar North received 244 each ballot and control units, and 264 VVPATs; and Jalandhar Cantonment got the allocation of 263 each ballot and control units, and 284 VVPATs.

20 % of ballot units, control units, and thirty percent of VVPAT machines are reserved for each assembly constituency, he said.

Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal further mentioned that after segregation between May 3 and 10, distribution to Assistant Returning Officers will take place between May 13 and 17 at the district warehouse. These pre-poll EVMs will be stored in a strong room by AROs.

He also said that the second randomization for booth-wise distribution will occur on May 18. The preparation of machines will be finalized on May 21 and 22 after finalizing the list of candidates. 

District Election Officer assured proper arrangements have already been made for free and fair elections in Jalandhar. 

During the randomization, DIO Ranjit Singh, Sub Divisional SCO Lupinder Kumar, Election Tehsildar Sukhdev Singh, Election Kanoongo Rakesh Kumar, representatives from various political parties including Vijay Yadav from BSP, Amar Seth from BJP, Gurinder Singh, JS Bagga Shergill from Aam Aadmi Party, were also present at the event.
