Staff seeking exemption from duty: screening committee constituted.

JALANDHAR-
To ensure that only people with genuine problems were exempted from poll duty, the DEO cum Deputy commissioner Jalandhar Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today constituted a screening committee under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Major Amit Mahajan to scrutinize applications for exemption from duty on health and other grounds.

Issuing the orders, the DEO said that the purpose was to ensure that people with actual health and other problems do not face any inconvenience.

On the other hand, he said that those people who do not have any such problem but were making lame excuses to avoid poll duties must not be allowed to take the law for granted.

DEO said that all the applications received for exemption of duty on medical and other grounds would be referred to this panel, which would scrutinize all the applications of alternative days from 9am to 12 pm at the court of ADC Jalandhar, DAC complex.

The Deputy Commissioner said that in case anyone was found trying to mislead the government or administration to avoid election duty then stern action would be taken against them as per rules.

He said that no one would be allowed to take poll duty for granted as poll duty was most important for strengthening democratic processes at the grass-root level. He categorically said that there was zero tolerance in case any member of the poll staff tries to mislead the administration for not joining poll duty.

As per orders, the committee comprises Deputy Director Land Records Chandan Bhanot, District Education Officer Suresh Kumar, Harjinder Singh, District Welfare Officer Sanjiv Manan, SMO (Ortho) Dr. Beant Singh, and Gynaecologist SMO Dr. Varinder Kaur Thind. The DC directed the committee members to screen all the applications by examining the facts presented by the applicants so that appropriate decisions could be taken with respect to granting exemption. If any, the employee seeks exemption on medical grounds, and then doctors in this committee will conduct a detailed examination of the facts.

He further mentioned that if any employee was unfit for service on medical grounds, then the committee would write to the administrative secretary of the concerned department.

The Deputy Commissioner called upon all the employees to perform their election duty zealously as it was the most important national service to further strengthen the ethos of democracy in our country.
