The Shahkot police have arrested a travel couple agent on the charge of duping a Shahkot village resident of Rs 43 on the pretext of sending him abroad.
Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Amandeep Singh who is the investigating officer (IO) in this case said that the accused has been identified as
Avtar Singh alias Tari son of Mohinder Singh a resident of Sohal Jagir Village and his wife Jaswant Kaur are accomplices of the main accused Nirmal Singh son of Mohan Singh a resident of Punia Mand village under Shahkot police station.
Sodhi Singh son of Gurdial Singh a resident of Lasoorri village had complained to Jalandhar (rural) Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) that he had paid Rs 43 lakhs to the accused for facilitating his migration to Canada. However, he was neither sent abroad nor returned the money.
DSP said a case under section 406(breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)and section 13 of the Punjab Travel Professional Regulation Act has been registered against the accused after an inquiry against the accused who were nominated in this case, but still main accused Nirmal Singh is still absconding.
