Dr Amrik Singh CAO Faridkot exhoted the farmers to increase arra under PR 126,a short duration variety which matures in 93 days after transplantation.
He said the there are baseless rumours on the social media discouraging the farmers about growing PR 126.
"It is very important that we should bring more and more area under this variety because it take short time to mature and requires less water," the CAO said.
He assured the farmers that every grain of this variety would be procured by the government agencies.
The variety has been very popular among the farmers for past two three years because of its very high yield.
The variety is also suitable to grow moong and maize for fodder after wheat.
The variety is also comparatively better than other water guzzling long duration varities because when is is trasplated,the moonsoon season also set in reducing the need of sub soil water.
