District Election Officer (DEO)-cum-Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, Police Commissioner Swapan Sharma, and SSP Jalandhar (rural)  Ankur Gupta today assured the political parties that district administration would provide a level playing field to all candidates.

Today in a meeting with the political parties' representatives, DEO asked the representatives of all political parties to follow the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) besides seeking full cooperation for the successful conduct of Lok Sabha elections.

He also said that any political gathering/use of loudspeakers etc. without permission would invite strict action as Permission Cells were established at the district and Assembly Constituency level for 19 different types of approvals.

It includes permissions to political parties and candidates concerning the holding of rallies, and ceremonies, setting up election offices, holding meetings, use of loudspeakers, helicopters, etc during the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

District Level “Permission Cell” established at Room No. 22, MA Branch in District Administrative Complex besides setting up permission cells at ARO level where approvals are given transparently on a 'first come, first served' basis.

He further said that political parties and candidates must get pre-certification of the content of advertising done through print, electronic, and social media for their election campaign from the District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee established at Room No. 14-A, the District Administrative Complex.

Aggarwal also said that for permissions online and offline applications need to be submitted before 48 hours and 24 hours respectively Information can also be taken on the toll-free number 1950. Later on DEO also visited the counting centres to review the preparations.

Meanwhile, police commissioner Swapan Sharma and SSP Jalandhar( rural) Ankur Gupta said that cash of not more than 50,000 to be carried during MCC implementation. They also said that police will take swift action against the hate speech / MCC violations / corrupt practices etc. They also urged the people not to use religious places for election campaigns.

Representatives of the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP, Bahujan Samaj Party, Aam Aadmi Party, Communist Party of India, and Communist Party of India (Marxist) were in the meeting.
