The Nakodar City police have arrested a miscreant and booked his accomplice on the charge of snatching a woman’s earrings and purse.
Investigating officer (IO) Rannjit Singh said that the accused has been identified as Kamal Kumar’ son of Joginder Kumar a resident of Muhem village.
Ishra Devi's wife Fakir Chand a resident of Mohalla Rehman Pura Nakodar complained to the police that she was returning home after work on March 28 night when two motorcycle-borne accused waylaid her near the house and snatched her earrings (artificial) and a purse containing Rs300 at point of a sharp-edged weapon.
She said in her complaint that Mahala residents chased the accused after she raised the alarm and caught Kamal Kumar but his accomplice Ajay Kumar managed to flee.
IO said that a case under section 379(B) (2) (snatching) and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property) of the IPC has been registered against the accused and his accomplice Ajay Kumar son of Darshan a resident of Muhem village and recovered snatched items form the possession of Kamal.
This incident of snatching has exposed the Nakodar police’s claim of deployment of the special police force in the town during the night to check thefts and snatching incidents.
