DC forms District Monitoring Committee on Accessible Elections to ensure inclusive participation of PWD voters

Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today established the District Monitoring Committee on Accessible Elections (DMCAE) to ensure the inclusion and active participation of persons with disabilities (PWD) in the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

This strategic move is geared towards maximizing the engagement of PWD voters in the democratic process.
 
Dr. Aggarwal elaborated on the committee's mandate, highlighting its role in executing the District Election Plan for accessible elections.

Empowered to implement a comprehensive strategy framework, the committee will facilitate holistic participation and constructive engagement of PWD voters, he said, adding that it will oversee the provision of essential assistance, including wheelchair facilities, deputation of booth volunteers, braille ballot sheets, help desks, signage, pick-up and drop services on polling day, access to drinking water and toilets, and the installation of ramps, etc.
 
Moreover, the committee will ensure thorough training for all stakeholders involved in the electoral process, enhancing their awareness and understanding of accessible elections. He also said that efforts will also be made to raise awareness among PWD voters about the available facilities.
 
Chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, the committee comprises the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development), all Assistant Returning Officers, and officers of different departments.
