Deputy commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal today reiterated that the district administration is firmly committed to the smooth conduct of the Lok Sabha polls 2024 for Jalandhar parliamentary constituency (SC).
Addressing the officials here at DAC, Dr. Himanshu said that the implementation of the model code of conduct, and redressing the complaints on the C- Vigil app within 100 minutes would have to be ensured as per the guidelines of ECI.
The deputy commissioner has also said that no laxity would be tolerated in election duty as it’s the biggest festival of democracy to be celebrated with full enthusiasm.
He also formed a committee to redress the issues regarding the relaxation of election duty. The committee will be headed by the ADC (G) along with members as civil surgeon / senior medical officer and DEO Secondary.
He also asked all heads of departments to ensure the removal of political advertisements boards, banners, etc from their offices and jurisdictions besides submitting the certificate by March 23 evening mentioning that “ all political hoardings/banners have been removed from government premises under their jurisdiction “.
Any kind of relaxation in election duty will be recommended by the concerned HOD with valid reason to the committee which will verify the facts and decide the application, he added.
He also made it clear that any kind of falsely claimed relaxation, if found would invite strict action besides seeking an explanation of HOD.
Talking about the deposition of license arms , the Deputy commissioner said that only applicants having personal threat of life would be entertained and examined by the district-level committee to allow any kind of relaxation.
He also reviewed the preparation of counting centres which will take place on June 4.
Later he also visited the Media monitoring and certification cell, complaint cell, etc which were established to keep an eye on the paid news etc.
Prominent amongst those present in the meeting included MC commissioner Gautam Jain, ADC Amit Mahajan, additional commissioner Amarjit Singh Bains, ADC Jasbir Singh, ADC Lakhwinder Singh, and all SDMs.
