The Nakodar City police have booked a Canada-based and Nakodar-native gangster and his unidentified accomplices on the charge of extortion by putting a person in fear of death.
Station House Officer (SHO) Sanjiv Kapur said that the accused has been identified as Sandip Singh alias Sunni son of Parminder Singh a resident of Mohalla Preet Nagar backside Continental Hotel, Nakodar city and presently living in Canada, and his unidentified accomplices.
The victim reported to the police that on March 14 morning he received a phone call the caller introduced himself as Jaggu Bhagwan Puria from Kapurthala jail and asked him to arrange Rs 5 Lakhs within five days and if he failed, he would be shot dead.
The complainant said the accused caller threatened him daily to deposit money as the time limit was shortening. He said other residents have also received such threatening calls from the accused and his friends have identified the accused from audio calls as Sandip Singh alias Sunni who has been living in Canada for the last five years along with his unidentified accomplices demanding ransom and action should be taken against the accused.
SHO aid that a case under section 386(extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt.)506(criminal intimidation) 120-B (criminal conspiracy) and 511 (attempting to commit offenses punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment.) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against Sandeep Singh and other unidentified accused.
