As the Election commission of India has announced the schedule for Lok Sabha polls-2024 , the model code of conduct has come into effect immediately in Jalandhar parliament constituency where more than 16 lakh voters would be able to cast their votes at 1951 polling booths . The Jalandhar constituency will go for voting on June 1 , 2024 , whereas counting will take place on June 4,2024.

In a marathon meeting with all the nodal officers, District electoral officer cum Deputy commissioner Vishesh Sarangal has made it clear to the officials that the model code of conduct to be implemented strictly in the parliament constituency.

He said that all assistant returning officers / nodal officers / district level officers to ensure the operationalisation of all district / assembly level teams related to enforcement of MCC , election expenditure monitoring/ flow of cash, to keep an eye on paid news by MCMC and complaint redressal system etc.

He also asked the commissioner MC Jalandhar Gautam Jain , who has been appointed as nodal officer for implementation of model code of conduct to ensure the removal of political advertisement hoardings / unipoles / banners etc besides removal of Unauthorized Defacement in 24 hours .

All wall-writings, posters/papers or defacement in any other form, including cutout/hoardings, banners, flags etc, on Government property shall be removed within 24 hours from the announcement of elections by the Election Commission.

The cases of defacement, other than received at C-Vigil, shall also be redressed promptly, as soon as complaints are received , DEO added .

Terming the maximum participation of youth in the voting process as a top priority, Mr. Sarangal has asked the officials to enhance the SVEEP activities so that the target is fixed by ECI to ensure more than 70 % polling is achieved.

He also said that all 18 nodal officers deputed for various important tasks in election must perform the duty with dedication and no laxity would be tolerated.

Urging the people to make larger participation in the election process , DEO said that this biggest festival of democracy must be observed with enthusiasm.

He also said that the district administration has made elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of free and fair polls as training has also been imparted to the officer / employee deputed in the polls process.

Earlier a detailed presentation was also played by the ADC to provide a brief to officials about their roles and responsibilities during election.

Prominent amongst the present in the meeting included ADC (G) Amit Mahajan , ADC (UD) Jasbir Singh , Additional MC Commissioner Amarjit Bains , ADC Lakhwinder Singh , all assistant returning officers and nodal officers.
