 In view of the forthcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, as per the directions of the Election Commission of India, a District Level Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has been constituted to keep a close tab on print, electronic and social media advertisements, paid news/dubious paid news.

The committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner-Cum-District Electoral Officer Vishesh Sarangal wherein Additional Deputy Commissioner-Cum-Additional District Election Officer Jasbir Singh will be Nodal Officer of this committee.

, District Public Relations Officer Subeg Singh is Member Secretary of this committee along with other members including Assistant Returning Officer Dr. Jai Inder Singh, PIB Officer Rajesh Bali, representative from UNI Anil Dogra while Assistant Public Relations Officer Vikas Vohra is member and social media expert in this committee.
 
Apart from this, as many as 40 employees have also been deployed for closely monitoring various news channels and social media platforms. This cell will start its work immediately after the election code of conduct is imposed, in which the employees of various departments involved will constantly monitor the news appearing in news channels, social media and print media.

Apart from this, pre-certification of the content of advertisements and promotional materials will also be given by the committee as per applications received from the candidates.
 
The committee will also consider matters related to paid news, if any found.

Notably, the total number of polling stations for Jalandhar (SC) seat is 1951 and the total number of voters is 16,41,872 including as many as 8,54,048 male and 7,87,781 female voters. There are also 43 transgender voters registered in the voters’ list.
