The Shahkot police have busted a gang of drug peddlers with the arrest of its two members after a brief encounter.
Shahkot Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narinder Singh Aujla said that the arrested accused have been identified as Vikash alias Viki alias Bhalwan son of Sukhdev a resident of Malsian and Arashdeep Singh alias Akashdeep Singh alias Arsh son of Raj Kumar a resident of Mohalla Purani Gali, Shahkot. DSP said that police had received a piece of secret information that the gang was involved in selling heroin and had illegal firearms.
DSP said the police raided their hideout and 200 grams of heroin, Rs 21,000 drug money, one country-made pistol, and 4 cartridges, were recovered from their possession. The accused fired at the police while fleeing but were nabbed, and one empty cartridge was recovered from the spot.
DSP said a case under sections 21/22/61/85 of the NDPS Act and section 25/54/59 of the Arms Act has been registered against the accused and t their two accomplices Pardeep Kumar son of Chandi Ram and Gurpreet alias Gopi son of Dharam Pal residents of Malsian village.
The Mehat Pur police also arrested the drug peddler Baldev Singh alias Kala son of Gurcharan singh a resident of Mohalla Kasba, Mehat Pur with 2 kilograms of poppy husk said the investigating officer Jaspal Singh.
