The Nakodar City police have arrested a l bus driver on charges of killing a cyclist following a dharna by residents.
The incident occurred near the Government college on Mehta Pur Road when a bus of a private company (Sandhu Transport) crushed to death a cyclist Hans Raj a resident of Mohalla Udham Singh Nagar and its driver fled away leaving his vehicle.
Area residents staged a dharna and blocked traffic demanding strict action against the accused.
Nakodar DSP Kulwinder Singh Virk reached the spot pacified agitating residents and told them that the accused bus driver Lakhbir Kumar son of Dev Dhar a resident of Panchhatta in Kapurthala had been arrested and a case under sections 304-A (causing death by negligence), 337and 338(causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others)427(mischief) has been registered and impounded bus.
