Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today distributed electric wheelchairs-Cum-Scooters among as many as 11 students with special needs to ensure their independent mobility.

Giving more information, the DC said that these customized wheelchairs were sponsored by Axis Bank under its CSR initiative and designed and manufactured by Chennai-based company Neo motion.
 
Terming persons with disabilities an integral part of our society, the Deputy Commissioner stated that the Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann was committed to ensuring holistic development of all sections of the society.

He further mentioned that district administration had already been taking several initiatives to ensure the welfare of persons with disabilities and these electric wheelchairs-Cum-Scooters will prove to be another milestone in this noble cause.

He also said that these wheelchairs can be converted into electric scooters within no time that too without external help. These scooters, equipped with the latest technique, can attain a top speed of 25kmph while batteries installed in these bikes can provide a range of up to 25 km per charge.
 
The DC mentioned that these electric wheelchairs-Cum-scooters will ensure the independent mobility of students as they will be able to attend their school smoothly. He asked the officials of the education department to ensure proper training of occupants of these electric scooters so that they do not face any kind of difficulty during their operation.

He also lauded the efforts of Axis Bank for this unique initiative to provide about 50 such scooters in the entire state under which as many as 11 electric wheelchairs-Cum-scooters have been provided to students with special needs in Jalandhar District.

Prominent others present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, Cluster Head Axis Bank Veenu Chopra, District Education Officers Suresh Kumar, and Harjinder Kaur, Deputy DEO Rajiv Joshi, Principal Yogesh Kumar, Surinder Kumar, Dr. Manoj, and Raju Chaudhry.
