DWSM approves projects worth Rs. 27 crores for rural households

District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) led by Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Tuesday approved projects worth Rs. 27 crores to provide potable water and sanitation facilities to the rural population. 
 
Divulging the details, Additional Deputy Commissioner Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa said that the DWSM meeting was held to approve all the proposals for village water supply schemes and sanitation schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, and Swachh Bharat Mission (G) respectively. During the meeting, it was intimated that as many as 60 water supply schemes were successfully carried out in the district under Jal Jivan Mission for Rs. 2099.15 lakh to provide potable drinking water to people. Similarly, approval was given to a total of 23 water supply schemes under the 15th Finance Commission to provide potable water to rural households at an outlay of Rs. 132.91 lakh. Member Secretary DWSM explained that funds for all these works have already been received from concerned Zila Parishad/BDPOs.
  
Another project under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) was also approved by DWSM costing Rs. 318.56 lakh for liquid waste management in as many as 120 villages and 340.74 lakh for solid waste management in 661 villages. These projects aimed at making Jalandhar an ODF district under this mission by managing solid and liquid waste to bring about visual cleanliness and transforming all the villages from ODF to ODF Plus.  Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal asked the officials concerned to complete all these projects within the stipulated time frame so that the benefits of these schemes can be delivered to all eligible beneficiaries timely.
