Nurmahal received 46 mm rain till March 3-wettest

 The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that Nurmahal in Jalandhar was the wettest, receiving 46 mm rain till the morning of March 3, followed by Gurdaspur with 34.8 mm and Ropar with 26 mm,

 It said during this duration, Punjab received 12.1 mm rain compared to the long period average of 0.8 mm for this period, which is surplus by as much as 1,413 per cent.

Light to moderate showers continued to be experienced at many places till the evening on March 3, when the skies started clearing.

The day temperature in the state during this period was in the range of 20.5 degrees Celsius at Gurdaspur to 26 degrees Celsius at Faridkot.

The minimum temperatures were between 15 degrees Celsius at Mohali and 4 degrees Celsius at Bathinda, which was six degrees below normal.

A fresh western disturbance is expected to hit northwest India on Tuesday, which is likely to bring rain or snow over the western Himalayan region from March 5-7, the India Meteorological Department said.

 

Widespread rain was reported from most parts of Punjab over the past 24 hours, with a few places experiencing hailstorm or thunderstorm.
