Faridkot

Bharti Kisan Union(Sidhupur Ekta) block Jaitu staged protest in Bajakhana town outside the power substation late Friday evening demanding to supply the consumers regular power in the cold days.

“The power supply is very poor in Jaitu block. The power goes off in the morning for about 5 hours and 3 to 4 hours in the evening. Bhagwant Mann government had rode to power on the promise of free power supply upto 600 units, but now the officials say that people use water heaters, room heaters and power cooking apparatus lead to the power overload and to avoid this, supply is snapped. So there are frequent cuts in the morning and evening,” alleged Inderjeet Singh Ghania and others of BKU(Sidhupur-Ekta.)

“The situation is worst in the whole district. The powers cuts are regular in the evening and morning ranging from 2 to 5 hours. The power supply is snatched at about 6 am and restored at about 11 am and in the evening, it is cut at about 5 to 6 pm and restored at about 7 to 8.These are the working ours in every household. The children have to get ready, people have to cook and eat, the water pumps and other power machinery is required in the morning and evening. But there is no power during those hours,” alleged Bohar Singh Rupian Wala, district president of BKU Sidhupur Ekta.

He further alleged that there is also irregular power supply to the agriculture pump sets while the canal water is also not available.

“We want regular domestic and agriculture power supply. If there are power cuts, these should be scheduled and notified so that the works of the people don't get affected,” said Bohar Singh.

He alleged that the power cuts as alleged by them are there in the district for about 15 days now.

He further said that the powercom officials have assured them that no such cuts would be there in Jaitu block and power to agriculture sector would be given on alternative days for 10 hours.Let us see what happens,” he said.

But the leaders of the Jaitu block alleged that powercom officials ask them to write it to the higher officials as there are power cuts.

Beera Singh, a daily wager from Faridkot village alleged that the government is now running away from its promise of providing 600 units of power free of cost.

“If we people use power devices to cater to our needs, power is supplied through our meters. The regular morning and evening power cuts have made our life worst in cold and shivering days,’ alleged Beera Singh.

The union leaders however warned of intensified protests if they are not heard.

The common man though not a part of protest, but is angry over the government move to snap power in the morning and evening.
