JALANDHAR/PHILLAUR
In a bid to encourage progressive farmers who have adopted direct sowing of paddy, Punjab Government has released financial aid worth Rs. 17.13 lakh for them in the district.

Giving more information, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal said that the Punjab government had announced to give Rs 1500 per acre to the farmers who will adopt direct sowing of paddy.

He further said that about 150 farmers had opted for DSR while a total of 1142 acres of land was verified under direct sowing in the district. He also said that the government had now issued funds worth Rs. 17,13,000 as financial assistance for these farmers.

The Deputy Commissioner said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had been motivating farmers to adopt DSR techniques to save the ground water.

The Deputy Commissioner on Monday also met the farmers of several villages including Ghurka, Mehsampur, Goraya, Mao Sahib and Nurmahal town and sought their support against stubble burning.

He said that the stubble burning had become a major source of environment pollution and causing huge losses to soil and air. He asked them to manage the stubble with in-situ and ex-situ techniques.

On the request of farmers to give more balers to the co-operative societies, the Deputy Commissioner assured them to take up the matter with the state government.

Chief Agriculture Officer Dr. Jaswant Roi also pointed out that farmers should adopt direct sowing technique of paddy to preserve ground water and environment so that these natural resources can be saved.
