 National School Games:  Punjab hockey teams become national champions




JALANDHAR
On the last day of the 67th National School Games Hockey today, the hockey teams of Punjab have emerged victorious by winning final matches here at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium. 

During the final event, the Punjab team (girls) defeated Madhya Pradesh by 2-0 while the boy's team beat Uttar Pradesh by the margin of 2-0. Meanwhile, the Odisha team (girls) beat Maharashtra by 2-1 while the Haryana boys team beat Odisha by 4-2.

Member of Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku was the chief guest while Arjuna Awardee Surinder Singh Sodhi was the special guest in the final event. They met the players and encouraged them to maintain sportsmanship.

Deputy District Education Officer (Secondary Education) Rajeev Joshi said that during this national-level tournament, around 950 players from 50 hockey teams from across the country participated zealously. 

DM Sports Iqbal Singh Randhawa informed that the league matches, pre-quarters, quarterfinals, and final matches of all teams were played at Surjit Hockey Stadium, BSF Hockey Ground, PAP Hockey Ground, and Khalsa College hockey grounds of the district. 

Member Parliament Sushil Kumar Rinku and Olympian Surinder Singh Sodhi hailed the local administration for holding such a mega event in the district.
