SGPC Polls- administration starts 15 days special drive

: Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Wednesday said that the district administration has started 15 15-day special drive for registration of voters for SGPC polls.

Under that drive, special camps would be organized in all Gurdwaras of the district on January 14 and 17 for the enrolment of the voters in maximum numbers for SGPC elections.

Chairing a meeting with the officials and representatives of Sikh organizations in the district administrative complex, the Deputy Commissioner said that the Maghi festival and Parkash Purab of Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji fall on January 14 and 17 respectively and devotees pay obeisance in huge numbers in all Gurdwaras on these days.

He said that patwaris would remain present in all Gurdwaras and collect the voter registration forms.

He said that the patwaris would take enrolment forms individually from each person and asked them not to collect bulk forms. He said that forms would be made available to the people and can also be downloaded from 
Jalandhar.nic.in.

Sarangal also told all Block Development and Panchayats Officers (BDPOs) to ensure public announcements in all villages of the district so that a maximum number of people can register as voters for SGPC elections.

He also sought support from representatives of Sikh organizations in sensitization of the people regarding registration as voters. He said that all SDMs and other senior officers must supervise this exercise so that voter registration can be encouraged.


Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADC (G) Major Dr Amit Mahajan, SDMs Dr Jai Inder Singh, Balbir Raj Singh, Rishabh Bansal, Gursimran Singh Dhillon, Amanpal Singh, and others.
