JALANDHAR

Jalandhar(rural) police on Thursday arrested four smugglers on the charge of supplying opium in Punjab and recovered from their possession a huge quantity of contraband.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said that 63 kilograms of opium loaded in two trucks and one tractor trolly was recovered from the possession of the accused identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Guri son Kirpal Singh a resident of Giddar Pindi village under Doraha police station Ludhiana driving the truck and his cleaner Jarnail Singh,Harmohan Singh Mohana son of Malkit Singh a resident of Mannaki village under Samrala police station Ludhiana driving another truck and Jagjit Singh alias Jita son of Sikandar Singh a resident of Giddar Pindi village under Doraha police station driving a tractor trolly.

SSP said that the Goraya station house officer Sukhdev Singh received secret information that the accused were bringing opium in huge quantities for supply in Amarit Sar under the garb of tea leaves supply from Mani Pur State.

SSP said the accused were intercepted at a special Naka and recovered opium from three vehicles kept in secret boxes.

 

SSP said that a case under sections 18(C)/25/31-A/85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused by Goray police and impounded three vehicles   adding that Jagjit Singh Jita is notorious smuggler convicted in a drug case serving ten years imprisonment and was on parole,
