District administration Jalandhar has chalked out a comprehensive plan to tackle the drug abuse by making larger participation of parents by making them aware of preventive measures.
Block level teams would be set up under the leadership SDMs and DSPs concerned to make the students aware of the ill effects of drugs by organising seminars , camps , rallies in schools in unison with education department .
Deputy commissioner, Mr. Vishesh Sarangal who was chairing the meeting along with SSP Jalandhar (rural) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar , asked the DEOs to arrange motivational videos against drug abuse especially during the PTMs to ensure the larger participation of parents.
He also directed health department officials to keep strict vigil on the working of rehabilitation centres so that they must follow the treatment guidelines at drug de addiction.
He also said that district administration has launched various skill development courses free of cost in electronics and mobile repair which will be further facilitated to avail the maximum benefit of employment opportunities with the help of DBEE. Deputy commissioner also asked the SSP to depute the patrolling guards at OATT clinics.
Speaking in the meeting, SSP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar informed that district police has registered 388 cases in year 2023, comprising recovery of 48 KG heroin, 10 KG opium, 28000 tablets, 3760 KG poppy husk. Besides that, drug money worth Rs. 54 lakhs also seized by the police.
Taking a strict action against the drug smugglers, SSP said that a campaign has been launched to seize the properties build with the money earned with drug trafficking, resulting attachment of properties worth Rs. 64 crores in 6 cases which also includes Rs. 40 crore properties in Rehrwan village of Jalandhar.
It was also decided that senior police officials would deliver lectures in schools about the adversities of drugs besides encouraging youth for sports in collaboration with sports departments and various other institutions.
Prominent amongst present in the meeting included ADC( G )Amit Mahajan, all SDMs and officials of concerned departments.
