Unauthorised travel agents to face strict action: DC

Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal today said that strict action will be taken against unauthorized travel agents to save the people, especially youth from falling into their trap in the name of immigration.

During a meeting with the representatives of the Travel Agents Association at the District Administrative Complex here, the Deputy Commissioner said that the District Administration is committed to cracking down heavily on unauthorized travel agents and no one will be allowed to cheat the people.

On the issue raised by travel agents about the propaganda being done by unauthorised travel agents on social media sites, the Deputy Commissioner said that the administration will recommend strict action against this kind of activity under the cyber-crime Act.

The Deputy Commissioner also asked the officials to speed up the process of license renewal to eligible applicants as disposal of all pending files in this regard is to be made in 10 days.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sarangal also heard the problems of the association and assured that the administration would soon form a coordination committee to resolve them.

He said that meetings of this committee will be held regularly, in which registration, renewal, etc. issues will be considered and their settlement will be ensured.

He said that according to the instructions of the Punjab Government, the activities of immigration firms/travel agents were being closely monitored by the district administration. He appealed to all the licensed firms to do their work according to the law.

The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to the people to check the authenticity of the firms before availing of the services.

In the meeting, ADC (G) Major Dr. Amit Mahajan, ADC UD Jasbir Singh, and SDM Amanpal Singh were also present.
