NAKODAR/SHAHKOT /JALANDHAR
A central team constituted under Jal Shakti Abhiyan on Friday conducted a field visit and evaluated the ongoing works in Shahkot, Nakodar, and other parts of the district as part of the 'Catch the Rain' initiative.
The team led by Joint Secretary (Ministry of Defense) Dinesh Kumar accompanied by Central Ground Water Board Scientist KP Singh, ADC Jasbir Singh visited Shalanagar, Parjia Kalan, Nagaljeevan, Tut Kalan, and other villages falling in Shahkot and Nakodar sub-divisions and assessed the progress of rooftop harvesting systems, Pond Renovation (Thapar Model) and rehabilitation of old ponds under Mission Sanjha Jal Talab.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress, the central team asked the officials to complete the projects at the earliest to facilitate the people.
The team said that the projects were of great importance for the conservation of the ground water and promoting rain harvesting.
The team also emphasized the sensitization of the farmers to adopt these measures to save the depleting groundwater. The team also asked officials to regularly inspect the works to ensure timely completion. The team also met the progressive farmers.
Later, the team also held a meeting with the officials of various departments and gave necessary directions to prevent the further depletion of the groundwater.
