Central team review progress of “district water conservation plan”; direct officials to  stop depletion of underground water

Central team under “Jal Shakti Abhiyan “ on Thursday reviewed the progress of the ongoing water conservation projects under the District Water Conservation Plan for the year 2023-24 and issued instructions to complete these projects by March 31, 2024.

Here at the District Administration Complex, Central Nodal Officer, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Dinesh Kumar chaired a meeting with Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Rural Development) Jaspreet Singh, Central Ground Water Board Scientist K.P. Singh and various other officials of departments concerned.

During the meeting with the officials, instructions were given to boost the pace of water conservation projects so that they can be completed in given time frame .

The officials have also reviewed Jal Shakti Kendras, Rain water Harvesting System, Ponds, Drip Irrigation Systems, STPs, Flood Protection Works, Common Water Tanks, Awareness Activities, Liquid Waste Management and Plantation Campaign.

He asked the officials to take concerted efforts to improve the falling ground water level.

He said that if there is any problem in the implementation of a project, it should be immediately brought to the attention of the administration or department officials so that it can be cleared as soon as possible and the project can be implemented on time.

Emphasizing on geo-tagging of all the 'water bodies' of the district, he said that everyone should come forward to save the water.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal informed the central team that the administration has ensured regular review of the ongoing projects in the district regarding water conservation.

He said that the district administration will leave no stone unturned to complete these projects on time and instructions have already been issued to the concerned officials in this regard.

He said that apart from water conservation through Jal Shakti Kendras in the district, water harvesting system on rooftops to conserve rainwater as well as renovation of ponds are going on at war footing level. Apart from this, work was also being done on the projects of cleaning the dirty water through sewage treatment plants and using it for irrigation.

Apart from this, seminars were also being conducted at the village level to sensitize the people about the proper use of water, especially the underground water. He said that under various schemes in the district, 61 projects of roof top rainwater harvesting, 10 projects of renovation of ponds will be completed by January 31.

He asked the officials of Agriculture, Land Conservation and Water Conservation, Drainage Department, Water Resources Department, Rural Development and Panchayat Department to ensure timely completion of the ongoing projects through better interaction and submit proposals for new projects as soon as possible.

During their visit, the central team also inspected the ongoing projects related to water conservation.

On this occasion, District Development and Panchayat Officer Dharmapal, Deputy CEO Zilla Parishad Zeenat Khaira and officials of various departments were also present.
