LB  Minister reviews liquid-solid waste management, water supply projects

Local Bodies(LB)  Minister Balkar Singh on Wednesday reviewed the progress of ongoing liquid-solid waste management and water supply projects worth Rs 7.83 crore in Kartarpur.
Presiding over a meeting with officials of various departments, the Minister said that special emphasis was laid by the government to ensure a clean environment in the villages for which funds were being released regularly for the disposal of solid and liquid waste effectively. He said that under the Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBMG), the government had approved Rs 1.25 crore for the management of liquid waste in 136 villages of Kartarpur of which funds worth Rs 58.64 were already released to the villages. He also said that for solid waste management, a separate grant of Rs 58 lakh was already disbursed to the villages. He also asked the officials of water supply to execute the projects worth Rs 6 crore with proper planning and expeditiously to facilitate the people.
Singh said that there should be no delay or negligence in completing the projects and emphasized regular monitoring of the progress of works. He further said that a transparent and vigilant approach must be adopted in carrying out projects to avoid any discrepancies.
Later, the Minister also held separate meetings with Kartarpur Municipal Councillors and representatives of the Muslim Community and assured speedy redressal of their issues.
Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included IAS officer Mohammad Ishfaq, CEO of Punjab Waqf Board Latif Ahmad, and others.
