Administration to upgrade eight health,wellness centers



JALANDHAR
To augment primary health care services and infrastructure in the district, the district administration on Thursday decided to upgrade eight health and wellness centres.
Presiding over a meeting at the district administrative complex, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal, who is also chairman of the District Health Society, said that the government had released funds for the up-gradation and modernization of these centres. He said that the centres were being operated by the Community Health Officers and offering treatment for various non-communicable diseases, including cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and others. He said that the centers were also extending facilities like care in pregnancy and childbirth, neonatal and infant health care services, family planning, contraceptive services, management of communicable diseases, OPD services and etc.
Sarangal said that the nursing officers (staff nurses) were trained by the health department under a specially-designed bridge programme and undergone six-month training of Community Health Officers from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU).
The Deputy Commissioner asked the officials to expedite the ongoing work and ensure timely completion to facilitate the people.
Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADC (G) Major Dr Amit Mahajan, SDM Jai Inder Singh, Civil Surgeon Dr Raman Sharma, and others.
