The brother and uncle(Chacha) of the slain girl have been arrested by the Bathinda police who are accused in the murder of Jagmeet Singh and Beant Kaur, who were legally husband-wife but living separately.

Jagmeet and Beant, both residents of village Tungwali of Bathinda were killed with spades and other weapons while they were meeting secretly on the Sunday night.

Jagmeet, a constable in Punjab police, posted in the police lines Bathinda had allegedly made a love marriage with Beant Kaur, who was also a resident of the same village, about 4 years ago which was also executed in the court of law.

"Both of the husband-wife were the residents of the same village Tungwali. The house of the deceased was about 400 meters away from the girl's.The girl was living with his parents as they convinced her that her younger sister is yet to married and his marriage would bring a social stigma on the family. Thus she was staying with them, but her husband, the constable Jagmeet Singh allegedly secretly used to meet her at his house, to which the family had objections and they had forbidden him from meeting her. Yesterday, he had allegedly went to meet her and the brother of the girl, who is a doctor in the village noticed them. The deceased could not escape as he could not reverse his car because of a sharp turn there. So, the Balkaran Singh, the brother of the girl, his uncle Kirpal Singh and his son attacked the both and killed their daughter as well,' said Harmanbir Singh Gill, SSP Bathinda addressing the media today.

"We have arrested both Balkaran Singh and his uncle Kirpal Singh while his cousin is still at large. Our police parties are conducting raids to nab him," the SSP said.

Jagmeet Singh had shifted to Bathinda after his marriage with the same village girl.
