NAKODAR
The Nakodar city police have arrested a local goldsmith on the charges of cheating, breach of trust, and committing the crime with common intention.
Investigating Officer (IO) Sarabjit Singh said that the accused has been identified as Surinder Kumar son of Ramesh Kumar a resident of Bagichi Wali colony, Ashok Vihar, Nakodar, and proprietor of R. K. Jeweller bazar Sharafan Nakodar.
Gulshan Rai Arora a resident of Mohalla Rannjit Nagar Nakodar had complained to the director general of Punjab police (DGP)that he went to the shop of the accused for valuation of his gold and jewellery to secure the loan.
He had said that the accused asked him to mortgage gold and jewellery and misappropriated gold items weighing 244 grams and 160 milligrams and used various methods to harass him and demand reinvestigation of his case.
DGP had directed Jalandhar(rural) senior superintendent of police (SSP) for a thorough investigation.
Nakodar Deputy Superintendent of Police investigated allegations against goldsmiths which proved correct and SSP ordered registration of a case.
IO said that a case under sections 406(breach of trust) 420(cheating ) and 34 (committing a crime with common intention ) of the Indian Penal Code was registered against the accused and his brother who is absconding
