In order to give a new look to the table tennis indoor hall, Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Wednesday visited the hall adjoining Raizada Hansraj stadium and directed the officials to prepare a renovation proposal for the hall.
While inspecting the condition of the building, Sarangal held detailed discussions with officials of the Sports department and District Table Tennis Association’s representatives.
He said that the building was in need of immediate repair and asked them to send him a new estimated project report regarding the renovation works including the roof, wooden floor, lighting, walls, and sanitation so that the same could be forwarded to the state government for the funds.
Sarangal said that 100 players were being trained by the coaches in the hall and expressed hope that completion of the project would motivate others to join the game. He said that Jalandhar was a sports hub of India, and the state government was committed to restoring the pristine glory of the district by ensuring world-class sports infrastructure to the players.
He said that with improved facilities, players will be groomed properly and will not go outside to practice the game. He added that sports play a vital role in the overall personality development of individuals besides keeping them mentally and physically fit.
The Deputy Commissioner also inspected the basketball ground and gave necessary directions to the officials for improvements.
