DC approves Rs 2.83 crore for welfare of construction workers




JALANDHAR.

 

 Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Thursday approved financial aid worth Rs 2.83 crore for the welfare of 1146 construction workers.

Sarangal said that the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann was committed to the welfare of the construction workers and several schemes are being run by the Punjab Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board for them. He said that a person who is between 18-60 years of age and has worked as a construction worker for 90 days or more during the last 12 months can become a beneficiary. He said that masons, brick cement workers, painters, electricians, welders, carpenters, and plumbers, can become beneficiaries of the labour board. A construction worker can become a member of the board by depositing registration fees of Rs.25 only (once in life) and Rs.10 per month as contribution fees.

The Deputy Commissioner also exhorted the eligible workers to register themselves with the board and avail the benefits of the schemes. He said that for more information, one can contact the nearest Sewa Kendra and labour department.
