The total purchase of paddy by the state government and private agencies from farmers crossed 657587.5 lakhs quintals in grain markets in the Lohian Khas market committee on Wednesday, November 22, 2023.
Shahkot Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rishabh Bansal and Committee secretary Tejinder Kumar said we are expecting a decline in the purchase of paddy this season and may not achieve the target of 821358Llakhs quintals purchased last year. They said this is due to a fall in paddy arrival caused by floods in areas of the Lothian Khas sub-tehsil adding that 20 percent less paddy arrived in all grain markets of this committee. They said that 641552 quintals of purchased paddy have been lifted from grain markets and 3 or 4 percent more purchase of paddy is excepted.
