The Shahkot police have booked three family members, including a couple, on the charges of cheating and breach of trust.
Investigating officer (IO) Manjinder Singh said that the accused have been identified as Davinder Singh son of Gurbachan Singh a resident of Nawan Pind Jattan under Nakodar City police station his wife Dalvir Kaur and daughter Rajbir Kaur and wife of Amrit Pal Singh and now living in Canada.
Gurdev Singh a resident of Nangal Ambian village complained to the senior superintendent of police Jalandhar (rural) that he had solemnized his son Amrit Pal Singh's marriage with Rajbir Kaur in 2017 and sent her to Canada but Rajbir intentionally filed improper applications for his son’s migration and thus all three cheated him of Rs 22.5 lakhs.
IO said that a case under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 420(cheating) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against the accused after an inquiry.
