Shun stubble burning to save natural resources: DC to farmers

NURMAHAL
Deputy Commissioner Vishesh Sarangal on Monday called upon the farmers to shun the stubble burning to save natural resources as the burning of stubble emits toxic pollutants into the atmosphere.

Addressing the farmers in an awareness camp at village Rurka Kalan, Mr. Sarangal said that farmers of Punjab always lead the nation in bumper crop production to make it self-reliant in food grains and in the field of environment protection, our farmers must rise to the occasion by not burning the stubble in fields.

Making an impassioned appeal to farmers, Sarangal said that he was one of you and knew the ground realities. He said that stubble burning could be effectively curtailed with the collective efforts.

He said that the farmers must adopt in-situ and ex-situ management measures wholeheartedly to manage the stubble. He said that burning was not a solution and if we want to give a healthy environment to coming generations, we have to end this ill practice.

The Deputy Commissioner asked the farmers to join the battle against the menace and contribute towards preserving precious natural resources by avoiding stubble burning.

He also lauded the efforts of several progressive farmers who were making immense contributions towards environment protection and water conservation through advanced farming practices and appealed to all the farming community to come forward and adopt these methods. He also assured the farmers of fulsome support in this noble cause.

It may be mentioned here that All three ADCs have been deputed as nodal officers to check the stubble burning cases in Phillaur , Nakodar and Shahkot besides putting SDMs, officials from PPCB, Agricultural, and Revenue departments on duties to keep an eye on stubble burning cases.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner also went to the fields where the ex-situ management method was being adopted by farmers and appreciated them.

Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included ADC Jasbir Singh, SDM Amanpal Singh, and experts from the Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department.
